Spear Generation 5
The Spear Generation 5 is the end result of 20 years of experimenting and building all aluminum banjos by Billy Spear. Mr. Spear holds numerous patents and has built hundreds of aluminum banjos in his machine shop. The Generation 5 is fully documented on CAAD so new parts are available if you ever damage it. The pot is turned from high grade aluminum and accepts a Gibson-style brass flange. The neck is fully adjustable for relief and intonation. The fret board is anodized aluminum for long wear and comes in a variety of colors. The diamond plate resonator and distinctive head stock make this instrument a show piece of industrial design. It also features a fully integrated 5th string capo and is impervious to rain or harsh environments. Most importantly, it sounds like a high quality instrument and is at home in any jam session. This banjo has more features than can be explained here, so call for more details.

Bailey Vine
Ken built two of these banjos about five years ago. The first one was a custom order, and this one was built to have around the shop for show. A lot of jam sessions break out in the shop so it has some visible wear on the head. The vine inlay is hand-cut from mother of pearl and abalone shell. The white mother of pearl flowers are the markers, with three flowers on the 12th fret. The pot, resonator and neck are all maple. It has a Gibson-style flange and the tone ring is a Huber gold-plated prewar ring. The peg head veneer is a burl wood, with ebony truss rod cover, and Waverly V-2 tuners. Ken finished it with a light two-tone lacquer fade. This banjo is an eye-catcher and has that great Huber prewar sound. $4,500 |

Deering Terry Baucum Model
The Terry Baucum model is one of Deering's latest new instruments. Since there is not just one perfect banjo that will please everyone on earth, Deering has many different models, and each has very distinctive voice. Terry Baucum is known for his hard-driving playing style and needs an instrument that will complement what he does. The new Deering 06 tone ring is cut down slightly to reduce mass and create lots of attack and a fast decay. The resonator and neck are made of walnut, which helps bring out the mids and highs that are needed for good old-time bluegrass music. The Baucum model has an all-new inlay pattern that is understated in its beauty, and looks like it came right out of the 1930s era. If you are a bluegrass enthusiast, you really need to try this banjo out before you spend any money on something with less tone and punch. Retail $4,629. Our price $4,160 |
